Born into a family of Mixtec healers, Ivan began his learning of traditional medicine from childhood, from mouth to ear, through “Mamá Carmelita”, his maternal grandmother. He assumed his responsibility as a healer in 1991 and was initiated in 2002 by “Don Raymundo”, also a Mixtec healer. In 2007 he received herbal techniques from “Nana Modesta”, a healer from the Nahua lineage; and finally, in 2008, he received the Mayan sobada technique from the Cen Dzul lineage.
Upon assuming his responsibility as a healer, he complemented his training by taking various courses, workshops and certificates in massage and therapeutic procedures typical of traditional medicine from various latitudes, such as China: An-Mo and Tui-Na massage; Vietnam: Dien-Chan; France: Osteopathy (the Gesret Method); and other techniques such as the Mexican Holistic Massage (at the Macpalli Institute), which fuses pre-Hispanic knowledge with other alternative medicines, such as aromatherapy, Bach flowers, reflexology and acupressure (the last two of Chinese origin).
Derived from all his training and trajectory in this field, he has developed his own techniques, which are both therapeutic in nature and harmonizing (achieving states of inner well-being), in which he uses pre-Hispanic musical instruments (drum, Aztec seashell, ayoyote rattle, rain stick etc.), pre-Hispanic archetypes (Meso-American), incense, tinctures, suction cups, as well as other elements.
He has combined his development as a professional healer and massage therapist, with the practice of professional tennis, both as an international player and as an instructor. This has been accomplished at recognized national sports clubs (Mexico City, Mazatlán and Manzanillo), as well as abroad (France). A point of fusion between his therapeutic interests and his tennis practice is sports medicine, an area in which he has also trained (two certifications from the National Autonomous University of Mexico).
